Dear Church Family and Friends,
Week after week television viewers by the millions tune into Glee to follow the pursuit of a motley crew of high school songsters competing for choir competition glory. Many of these viewers then download from iTunes the songs performed on the show. They also share their zeal for Glee all over the Internet. The show has massive followings on Facebook and MySpace. It is one of the most tweeted-about shows on Twitter, and it has inspired numerous musical tributes and re-creations on YouTube. Glee is such a hit that its fans even have their own special name: Gleeks.
As I write this article, a completely unverified rumor is now circulating about the origins of this show. According to a claim from an alleged source, the television show Glee was initially inspired by the story of the glee club at Mount Tulip High School. Moreover, this club gave its most memorable and sensational performance at Mount Tulip United Church of Christ! What a travesty that this UCC connection is not recognized in the popular media and all over the Internet! At First Congregational UCC in Vancouver, we have decided that the public needs to hear this untold story. For this reason, on June 5th, our choir will be performing the World Premiere of Glee: The Church Musical. In addition to re-writing the history book on Glee, this musical promises to delight audiences with its renditions of songs like “Climb Every Mountain,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” and “Rainbow Connection.”
After attending this musical, you will want to become a Church Gleek. Don’t miss this highly anticipated revelation of music and history! There will be a potluck dinner at 6 pm before the musical which will begin at 7 pm. For the potluck, please bring your favorite dish or dessert. For the performance, there is a suggested donation of $8. Donations will cover costs with additional proceeds going to the capital campaign. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. We want as many people to come as possible!
Your brother in Christ,
Pastor Brooks
