Birdhouse Contest: A Letter from the Pastor

Dear Church Family and Friends,

This past Sunday during the children’s sermon we announced that we are going to have a birdhouse contest!  Kids, youth, and adults alike have from now until our All-Church Bar-B-Que on May 17th to make a birdhouse.  Cory Saum-Blystone showed us how making a birdhouse is not as hard as one might at first think.  Local craft stores sell pre-made birdhouses. Cory showed us two birdhouses: one pre-made birdhouse that had not been painted and decorated yet and one that had.

Every entry into this contest will get an award.  Extra bonus points, however, will be awarded to anyone who makes a birdhouse from scratch in the shape of the church.  Each contestant will have the choice of either taking their birdhouse home after the bar-b-que or putting it into an auction with the proceeds going to the capital campaign.

As I explained to our kids on Sunday, our church is indeed like a birdhouse.  I am not just thinking about how we are a bit cuckoo at times.  I am thinking about how our church is a spiritual home where we come to be fed and nourished by God’s love before we then fly back out into the world like eagles soaring on the wings of faith.

May each of you fly with the grace of God!

Your brother in Christ,

Pastor Brooks
