Community Movie Night: Coal Country

On Tuesday, January 26th at 7 pm, First Congregational UCC will be hosting a captivating and revealing movie about the impact of coal as a source of energy. Coal is far from the minds of most Americans, but this film has caused many to reconsider where the energy comes from to run the machinery of their everyday lives.  At present, coal provides over half the electricity in our country.

This movie tells the compelling story of modern coal mining through the daily activities of working miners as well as those who are battling the coal companies in Appalachia. In addition to taking a look at the mining practice of mountain top removal, the personal stories portrayed in this movie are the touchstone for a larger exploration of the true cost of coal and the search for alternatives sources of energy.
