Vancouver UCC prizes the natural environment in many ways.
The Labyrinth, a peaceful place to visit, meditate, and reflect.
On our beautiful property, we have begun the development of the Mini Native Forest. A group of dedicated volunteers researched native plants to create an urban landscape design. The first plantings included a Garry Oak (Quercus Garryana), two Bitter Cherries (Prunus emarginata), two Shore Pines (Pinus contorta), one Vine Paple (Acer circinatum), and additional PNW shrubs and ground covers. Come visit us and watch it grow!
- We had a book study on “Cathedral on Fire: A Church Handbook on the Climate Crisis”, by Brooks Berndt. The book study began the first day of Earth Day and ended at Pentecost, with church members leading the weekly discussions. Brooks was a previous pastor at our church and is currently serving as the UCC’s Environmental Justice Minister.
- We have begun a program called Be the Pollution Solution. In the February 2023 Link there was an article with facts and information on forms of pollution (i.e., plastics) and tips on how each of us can be a part of the solution. Together we can make a difference, one step at a time.
