Hey, gang! Am I looking pretty cool or what? I am wearing my magical dream goggles. I’ve been wearing them for years. I wore them when I was growing up and used to dream about being a pro-football player. As it turned out, I didn’t have the speed and size I needed to play pro-football, but that was alright because I sure did enjoy dreaming. The most recent time I wore my magical dream goggles was this past year. I was dreaming of becoming a minister, and this time I luckily didn’t have to worry about speed and size, so God was able to make my dream a reality when I became pastor of this church.
I don’t know what I would do without my magical dream goggles. Without them, I would have been miserable growing up. I would have spent all my time thinking about the playground bully across the street or the meany teacher at school. Yeah, unfortunately, not all teachers are cool teachers like Linda Wear, Joan Blair, and Connie Oppel. But with my magical dream goggles, I could launch myself into the future and forget about all those troublesome things I had to deal with at school.
As Christians, we often wear magical dream goggles. We dream about making the world a better place. We dream about ending wars and building homes for the homeless. We dream about kids everywhere having food to eat, so they don’t go to bed hungry at night. We dream about everyone having a doctor they can go visit when they get sick. We dream about lots of different things, and I want to encourage each of you to dream as well. How does that sound? Are you ready to look cool like me?
Let us pray: Dear God, we pray that you give each one of us the imagination and hope that we need to dream even when life might not always seem that great. We pray that you give us the vision and the courage to make this world a better place. In the name of your Son, we pray. Amen.
