On Saturday, May 14th, the Oregon New Sanctuary Movement (ONSM) will convene the third annual Mother’s Day Vigil at the Northwest Immigration Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington. Any undocumented immigrant who is detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in the Pacific Northwest is sent to the detention facility in Tacoma. With Sanctuary Movement colleagues in Washington State, we have held a yearly vigil at the detention center near Mother’s Day to call attention to the impact of immigration enforcement upon families in our communities. Many of the families that we are connected to through the ONSM have first-hand experience with family members being detained at this facility.
