our
ministries

prayer circle

The church employs a variety of means to connect with one another and communicate our petitions with our Creator regarding our joys, prayers of healing for those afflicted by health issues, and pressing concerns related to current events occurring in our local, national, or worldwide community.

Please contact our congregational care representative at care@vanucc.org if you wish to participate or request prayer.

Praying

pride

Vancouver UCC is a safe place for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Pride is not just a one-month-a-year celebration here—it is a way of life for all our members. We recognize, honor, and celebrate the diversity of God’s children, but we also acknowledge that many church spaces have not always done so for our LGBTQIA+ siblings.

Our church is often found at events like Pride in the Park and others, letting people know that their gender identity, expression, and/or sexual orientation are not sins to be tolerated—it is how you are made. Be proud that you are made in the image of God!

climate

In April 2024, Vancouver UCC held its first annual Environmental Awareness Summit. We were blessed to have climate activist Heidi Cody (as well as our own Alona and Don Steinke) on hand to discuss the different ways in which we can positively impact the health of our climate.

We have also participated in numerous marches and grassroots campaigns to protect our environment. If you want to be a part of caring for our creation, you will be able to find like-minded people to share in that work.

oasis groups

Are you looking for a group where you can find like-minded folks to hang out with and just be yourself? Oasis groups are our way of building community.

Whatever your interests, we have a home for you to meet new friends and make life-long relationships.

prayer shawl group

The Prayer Shawl Group provides shawls to those who need comfort. We serve church members, attendees, and their families and friends.

All knitters and crocheters are welcome to join us. Our meetings are also open to anyone who might want to come and visit, have coffee, and get to know one another better.

We meet at church on the second Thursday of the month at 10 am. There is a supply of needles, yarn, and other accessories available if needed. For more information, contact Judy Walter at info@vanucc.org.

social justice

We participate in social justice-related events through peaceful protests (especially for those marginalized in our society), letter-writing campaigns, direct aid to organizations supporting immigrants, and many other avenues.

Our sermons frequently address social justice matters and how the teachings of Jesus Christ inform our views on these matters.

martha's pantry

In the early 1980s, AIDS was devastating the gay community with financial ruin and loss of life. In Vancouver, concerned individuals began buying and distributing food to people from the trunks of their cars. The effort grew to become what is now Martha’s Pantry. At Martha’s Pantry, our concern for our friends goes beyond basic survival to include personal dignity and quality of life.      For further information, visit: https://marthaspantry.org/
